Our tried-and-tested seven
- ZZ plant — happy in gloom with the odd drink; the office survivor, said with affection.
- Snake plant — bold, vertical and unbothered by parched air.
- Pothos — spills prettily from shelves and flags clearly when thirsty.
- Cast-iron plant — the name says everything.
- Spider plant — bright, speedy and forever free through its own babies.
- Peace lily — the lone diva here, though its floppy leaves make an honest water meter.
- Parlour palm — softens bare corners and endures low light for years.
The classic error behind most losses
Too much water. Nine in ten workplace fatalities we visit are drownings, not droughts — mostly saucers that never empty. Soak through, then hold off until the top 3cm feels dry. If unsure, give it one more day.
